Pigeon pea, a valuable legume, is cultivated extensively in India, Southeast Asia, parts of Africa and the West Indies. It is a typical dish in the Puertorican culinary culture. Because of its high protein content, it is used as a substitute for meats. The bush is very easy to grow and very productive. It needs very little watering because of its deep root system.
